It was a dark and stormy night
November 30, 2007
It was, too, improbable as though it might seem. It must have been about a year since I last saw any serious rain, in Phoenix.
No one else has an umbrella. They’re cold and damp, tonight.
Having last lived in Florida, where it rains like crazy for about all summer, that was not my problem. No, my problem was that I was wearing sandals…
Life. Don’t talk to me about life.
November 30, 2007
Life is making me grumpy, right now.
Time for a change, I guess. Time to get off my lazy butt and stop rearranging the deck chairs on the Ti… on the Hindenburg. I’m not looking forward to it, but I’ll charge up once I get started.
Bloody landlord.
Let’s close out this chapter. It’s time to lay down some new text.
The insanity of renting: today’s odd jest
November 29, 2007
I managed to miss the last rent payment. It’s not that I lack the money, but I didn’t have enough in the checking account, and I was unaware of it.
Took three weeks for the apartment managers to notify me. They wanted a month’s prepayment, for the trouble, plus extra, of course.
Paid it. Payment due as of December, which hasn’t happened yet, of course. It’s been two days and, I find a court summons on my door. Thank you!
Writing is, is writing. Is writing is writing?
November 28, 2007
I could write. I do write. Do I do right by writing?
Most people can’t read, I think. It’s not that they wouldn’t, perhaps, but they don’t, or they can’t.
Do I do right by writing?
Chicken in the car, the car won’t go
November 28, 2007
…that’s how you spell “Chicago”.
What?
Oh. No, it doesn’t really make any sense to me, either. It’s a line from one of the songs my folks used to sing when we were traveling. Long car trips across the U.S. or Europe, mostly, with a campground at our destination– tent or trailer, or both, perhaps.
WoW, and Damned I Am
November 28, 2007
Today’s madness comes from an old, stable warcraft player.
Maybe.
The madness, today, is that old Mr. Reliable went and hinted… hinted… actually, it was never quite clear what he hinted, other than that there seemed to be something very wrong with his life. He refused to quite close that connection. Politics, craziness, or meaning?
Free Rice
November 27, 2007
So, I managed to hang on to level 50 for a while, at Free Rice …than which there is no better. The site is effective at teaching vocabulary, as well as its charitable purposes. I have been picking up new words, although they tend to be obscure to the extent they will, perhaps, never be useful. Natheless, there are many worse ways to spend my time. Learning a few new things and donating food is, without doubt, more sensible than visiting slashdot again and wincing at the comments.
Sighting the sites: this site cited
November 27, 2007
I recently ran across Rad Geek People’s Daily, which is a thoughtful anarchist blog, with a feminist flavor. It’s of the socialist-anarchist branch. Perhaps the occasional humorous twists like calling for more government may be attributed to the youth of the author though, I think, socialism and government tend to get along like water and sponges.
Word games for charity
November 23, 2007
Strange but true. There is a site that donates a small amount of rice through the U.N. for each word definition you get right. It self-adjusts to your skill level. Couldn’t make it past level 49, and mostly cruised around 46.
It’s all over but the leftovers
November 23, 2007
…and, actually, I don’t have many leftovers. I stayed home, this year, and kept it simple. Nothing left over except some rolls, for which I’ve made a salmon salad. Oh, and there’s still a fair bit of salsa verde, but I think that can wait another day.
I ate quite a lot of the salsa verde, yesterday. It’s a very tasty blend of jalapeños, tomatillos, jalapeños, cilantro, and jalapeños. Also, jalapeños.
