The day we drove old nVidia down
April 8, 2008
Today marks the day that my nVidia GeForce 7900 GTX finally gets the toss. It’s crashed to blue-screen four times, today. Latest drivers don’t help a bit. It’s always been a cranky card, which has been damned annoying. It was the top of the line when I bought it, and must have run me $500 or so. It’s never worked reliably for 3D games, which was the whole point of the card.
I suppose I’ll put it on eBay, with appropriate caviats. Someone will probably be interested in a used fast video card, for non-gaming purposes.
Me, I’m going to get something NOT from nVidia. Screw them sideways with a baseball bat, they’ve caused me enough pain for all too much money.
Naturally, my computer’s built-in video card is also from nVidia. HP cheaped out on that, and got a really old, slow model. It’s utterly useless for gaming. Time was, HP was a mark of quality, but that hasn’t been the case for a long, long time. Sigh…
I’ll let y’all know what I wind up with and how it works out.
What operating system did you use? I just dont see four crashes because of bad drivers for 7900.
Vista. There were also problems under XP, although they weren’t as exaggerated. It’s always a crash in the display driver. I updated the drivers every time a new one came out but, the new ones worked even worse, if possible.
